Progressive’s Uninsured Motorist Exclusion Null and Void in Oklahoma

In September 2017, a teen driver with a car full of young friends lost control of her vehicle and crashed. Two passengers were seriously injured. The driver and her vehicle were insured through her parents’ policy with Progressive. The insurance company paid each seriously injured victim a sum of $100,000 per the policy’s liability limit. However, Progressive refused to pay the additional $100,000 for uninsured motorists even though the policyholders paid for this coverage. Learn why Progressive attempted to deny coverage, and why the Oklahoma Supreme Court voided the company’s uninsured motorist exclusion as a result.
