Virginia’s New COVID-19 Workplace Safety Rules First in Nation

In mid-July, Virginia became the first state to issue mandatory COVID-19 workplace safety rules. The decision by the Virginia Safety and Health Codes Board comes after the U.S. Department of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) declined to propose nationwide safety measures. Although the Virginia rules have not been published yet, many expect it to include flexible sick-leave policies, social distancing guidelines, return to work policies, and processes for identifying workers who have been exposed to the virus.
